The Australian Department of Home Affairs (DoHA) introduced policy changes pertaining to Provisional or Limited Registration for occupations regulated by Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Effective from 22 December 2022, all AHPRA-regulated occupations are now eligible to apply for Provisional or Limited Registration for the Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186). Previously, Medical Practitioners had to provide proof of full registration from AHPRA. Subclass 186 policy has now been revised, and Provisional or Limited Registration by AHPRA will now be accepted for all 186 visa applications.

The Department may require additional information from applicants to confirm that they meet the necessary requirements for their selected occupation. Decision-makers may request a statement from the nominator to verify that the applicant's registration or licensing allows them to effectively perform the duties of the nominated occupation.

These policy changes will apply to both existing and new 186 visa applications. The changes aim to streamline the application process for AHPRA-regulated occupations and ensure that eligible candidates can obtain visas in a timely manner. The Department is committed to supporting skilled migrants who wish to work in AHPRA-regulated occupations and aims to facilitate easier access to the Australian job market for skilled migrants through these policy changes.

Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186) lets skilled workers who are nominated by their employer live and work in Australia permanently. It allows you to work in Australia under one of three streams: Direct Entry stream, Labour agreement stream or Temporary Residence Transition stream.

Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) is a national organization that collaborates with 15 National Boards to execute the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme throughout Australia. Both AHPRA and the National Boards follow a nationally consistent law to regulate the health professions in the public interest. Their responsibilities include registering practitioners who have appropriate training and qualifications to provide safe healthcare and investigating concerns related to registered health practitioners.
